The participants of a five-day national workshop on "Workers Rights International Labour standards and labour laws in Pakistan" called for skill development of the manpower to ensure workers rights and for the progress of the country. The training course was aimed at training 80 master trainers, who will further trained 400 local level trainers, to disseminate the messages of the workers rights, at the grassroots level.
The five-day national level training was 2nd of the series of 12 national level training to be conducted by the ISCOS-CISL during three years period from 2004 to 2007, said a press release.
This training series is part of the ongoing activities included in the project - Strengthening Civil Society Participation to Promote and Defend Workers" Rights.
This project is co-funded by the European Commission (EC) and Istituo Sindacaleperla Cooperazione Allo Sviluppo (ISCOS), an Italian Non-Governmental Organisation engaged in the international co-operation programmes to implement projects in the fields of human, workers rights and socio-economic development.
Nineteen (19) participants, representing various NGOs/CBOs, from all over the country got the training.
During the training the resource persons, discussed the industrial relations system in the country and highlighted significance of trade unions in the changing global perspectives.
They also highlighted issues related to the workers and work places, occupational safety and health, HIV/AIDS, stress management, social security and EOBI and planning and management of training at the national and regional levels.
In the closing ceremony, Igore Felice, Country Representative, ISCOS-CISL, addressing the participants, emphasised that the presence to the Civil Society Organisations was very important for promotion of human and workers rights.
He said involvement of stakeholder for the protection and welfare of the workers was a prerequisite.
He pointed out that this process would not only help in defending the rights of workers but also improve the economy of Pakistan and ensure a safe work environment and a strong base for preparation to meet the global and regional challenges in future.
Igore, also appreciated the role of the trade unions and stressed upon the need for strengthening of workers organisations. He gave conferred certificated to the participants.
