NWFP Governor Lieutenant General Syed Iftikhar Hussain Shah (Retd) has said that the minorities in Pakistan are enjoying their due rights and privileges and the most encouraging aspect is that their role in the nation building process has always remained highly laudable.
In a message issued on the eve of Christmas, the governor while felicitating the Christian community especially hailing from the province as well as Fata, the governor said that in fact, being Muslims we are duty bound to respect and protect the religious and social rights of all minorities. With this spirit in mind, he remarked, we equally share the pleasures and happiness of our Christian brothers on this religious festival.
The governor also said that under the constitution of Pakistan too, the minorities deserve all that respect and honour and it is a matter of great honour for us that we are actively engaged towards their fulfilment. In fact, he remarked, it is also a matter of great satisfaction for all of us that the minorities of the country are also actively and efficiently engaged in the social sectors as well in the struggle towards the over all socio-economic uplift of the country. This is the motherland of all of us and the need is that we must work hard with a renewed spirit and vigour in making the efforts of the present government a success in this respect.
The governor has also advised the Christian community that let us renew our commitment on this occasion that we would not spare any moment in making Pakistan a true cradle of love, affection, peace and harmony in real sense.
