Managing Director, Utility Stores Corporation (USC) Brigadier Hafeez Ahmed (Retd) on Tuesday announced to reduce USC prices from 3 percent to 15 percent for more than 250 consumer items from the new calendar year as a special Eid-ul-Azha package. Addressing a press conference here, Hafeez Ahmed said the concrete steps have been taken aimed to provide maximum relief to common man on the special directives of the government.
He said under this package all utility stores will provide over 250 consumer items at the reduced prices in the range. Hafeez Ahmed further said this package will be applicable from January 1 and will remain in operation till December 31,2005.
He highlighted different services of the USC for provision of relief and quality goods to the public and said that it was really working hard to provide relief to the masses.
To a question, he said that the government was planning to expand the network of USC with the opening of new utility stores in those areas of the country where they are needed so that poor masses could be benefited.
"The profit earning is not the basic objective of the USC, rather it is endeavouring to provide maximum benefit to the masses" he added.
He also appealed to the public to draw full benefit from the special relief package and not purchase any item from the black market on higher rates.
Hafeez Ahmed said these steps of the government will not only provide economic relief to the common man but also facilitate in controlling the unjustified trend of price increase.
