The provincial minister for Information Technology, Syed Mustafa Kamal has said the Sindh IT Department is working for the promotion of IT and many people are being provided computer training. He was speaking as chief guest at the inaugural session of a two-day conference 'SCONEST-2004' at Jinnah University for Women (JUW) on Wednesday.
He said many companies in the country and abroad are being contacted for improvement in IT infrastructure in the province so that this sector could promote.
The minister appreciated the efforts of students and teachers Jinnah University for Women for organising such timely conference.
The conference was organised by the student branches of Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers Inc USA (IEEE), Hamdard University-GSESIT and NED University of Engineering and Technology alongwith PAF Karachi Institute of Economics and Technology and the professionals club at Jinnah University for Women.
A total of sixteen authors from various parts of Pakistan presented their research work during four different technical sessions. The conference also includes two workshops on 'SAP' and 'Real-world XML web services and data access patterns.'
A panel discussions on 'Internet banking in Pakistan' in which leading IT experts and departments from National Bank of Pakistan, Habib Bank Limited, Standard Chartered Bank participated in the discussion. The experts also discussed various technical and non-technical issues related to e-banking in the country.
Another panel discussion on 'Broadband Internet technologies' in which panelists from Super Net, PTCL. Multinet and WorldCALL also discuss and compare various broadband Internet access methods available in the cities including ISDN, Cable, DSL and wireless broadband.
