imageSamsung, the South Korean smartphone maker continues to increase domination in the mobile market, after data showed that the company’s latest flagship the Galaxy S7 Edge become the world’s top-selling Android device.

The data was released by Strategy Analytics, which revealed that Samsung’s shipped some 13.3 million units of its Galaxy S7 Edge, which as per 9to5 Mac, has made Samsung’s blue eyed child the top Android phone during the first half of 2016.

The reports added, android device shipments as a whole, increased by 5 percent annually during the first half of 2016, jumping from 552.2 million during the same period last year to 577.3 million this year.

However, Samsung’s biggest competitor Apple witnessed a massive drop in shipments i.e. falling by 16pc annually, from 108.7 million units last year to 91.6 million this year.

Samsung devices also made into the top three most popular Android devices during the aforementioned period. The Galaxy S7 Edge was number 1 with 13.3 million shipments, whereas, the Galaxy J2 was ranked second with 13 million shipments of and Galaxy S7 took the third spot with shipment of 11.8 million units.

“The Samsung Galaxy J2 shipped 13.0 million units worldwide for second position in the Android category during H1 2016, followed by Samsung Galaxy S7 in third place with 11.8 million units. Samsung remains dominant and it currently accounts for the three most popular Android smartphone models worldwide,” said Woody Oh, Director at Strategy Analytics.

“However, Samsung cannot rest on its laurels, because it continues to be chased hard by emerging rivals, such as the Huawei P9, OPPO R9 and Vivo X7 devices,” he added.
