Important issues regarding surgical management of portal hypertension, management of locally advanced breast cancers, adrenal tumours and problems of oesophagectomy will be discussed in the grand clinical meeting of the Society of Surgeon of Pakistan to be held on January 13, at 11.30 am in the auditorium of King Edward Medical College (KEMC) here. KEMC Principal Professor Mumtaz Hussain will be the chief guest.
Professor Syed Tahir Ahmad Shah will address the issue of surgical management of portal hypertension, Professor Muhammad Arshad Cheema will speak about management of locally advanced breast cancers, Professor Khalid Javed Abid will throw light on adrenal tumours, while Professor Abdul Fazal Ali Khan and Dr Khalid Masood Gondal will discuss the problems of oesophagectomy.
Dr Aamer Zaman Khan, secretary-general, Society of Surgeons of Pakistan, Lahore, told Business Recorder here on Saturday that senior surgeons and medical teachers from all institutions of Lahore will attend the meeting.
He averred that this is the regular event of the Society, which is held every month in which experts highlight advancement made by them in surgery.
Answering a question, Dr Aamer Zaman Khan said the people aiming to lower their cholesterol should turn to honey and almonds as well as fruits and vegetables as both could help lower cholesterol, adding eating almonds lowered cholesterol levels, reducing the risk of heart diseases.
He said diets, including almonds reduces levels of 'bad' cholesterol, while almonds like other nuts contain 'healthy' unsaturated fats.
Replacing carbohydrates with mono-unsaturated fat, within the context of a diet that is low in saturated, trans fat and cholesterol, favourably affects cholesterol levels and cardiovascular risk, he added.
