Pakistan Chest Society in collaboration with Chest Medicine Department, JPMC and Section of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine, Aga Khan University is organising a two-day training workshop for health care professionals on tobacco control and smoking cessation methods in Committee Hall, JPMC on January 11 and 12. Leading experts from Pakistan and abroad will facilitate the workshop, said a press statement here on Sunday.
According to Pakistan Chest Society sources the workshop holds immense significance as tobacco is a major cause of premature death with 34 percent of local population using tobacco in one or other form. Smoking itself is registered amongst the sin top non infectious health hazards in the world.
It was said to be further observed that 70 percent of smokers are desirous to quit tobacco at some stage of their life but there are no proper smoking cessation clinics in the country.
