The speakers at a seminar on Sunday stressed that youth of the country should place the cause of humanity at its priority as globalisation age has caused adverse impacts on old values, which were used to be for the welfare of human beings. They were speaking at a seminar on "Changing People Changing Times" organised by the Endeavour-a Youth Forum here at a local hotel.
They were of the view that age of consumerism, globalisation and corporate world has been inflicting irreparable losses to old and noble traditions and values, resulting in a senseless environment having no concern for bleeding wounds of humanity, caused by influential powers for their vested interests.
They were, particularly, critical of the role of electronic media in the new times as over exposure to electronic media has desensitised the people to sufferings of humanity, as stereotype images, portrayed by the media are presenting a reverse picture of the situation of what is actually happening around the world.
They further deplored that changes attitude of people are being done through electronic media, which in their opinion is wrong as the change brought from somewhere else in a person have disastrous impacts on an individual, which leads to formation of a nation having people devoid of any inner creative capabilities and emphasised the need the change must be brought in by individual himself by searching the knowledge based on his intellect.
A renowned educationist and Teachers Development Centre (TDC) Director Professor Abbas Hussain was critical of the role of major powers in healing the wounds of suffering humanity.
"United States has pledged to donate dollars 350 million for affectees of Tsunami whereas it was spending the same amount for killing of Iraqi people each one and half day. Was it not amazed, the champion of humanity was spending much more on killing of people compared to what it had pledged for relief to those, suffered in the worst disaster of the world, he added.
On dying values of society, he regretted new generation had done away with the legacy of their forefathers without knowing the merits and demerits of that legacy.
He urged the dialogue on different forums should be launched for youth of the country in order to give them an opportunity to express their views on the matters of culture, religions and on national and international scenario.
Renowned TV actor Talat Hussain was critical of the role electronic media playing in the lives of people. He said the changes on name of modernity were playing havoc with the thoughts and abilities of people.
He opined that the changes were only good in a situation when those come from inner of a person. Manoeuvred and engineered changes ate up creativity of a nation and left it on external forces for future course.
Dr Ghulam Abbas in his address urged for intellectual development institutions to nurture the intellectual abilities in the youth of the country. Allow intellectuality and creativity, if anyone wanted to make progress on its own capability. Dispelling the impression of shortage of time in age of globalisation, he was of the view there was enough time available also in that age, youth only needed prioritising of their tasks, to move in an organised way.
Endeavour Director Sohail Muhammad Ali said that to face challenges of globalisation, they needed to provide youth with coping skills and to build them critical thinking and reflection so they were able to shift information and use it for the benefits of the society.
