The value of the rupee increased versus the dollar in the interbank market by seven paisa for buying and eight paisa for selling at 59.48 and 59.52 on rising supply of the greenback, dealers said on Thursday. Fresh arrival of dollars boosted the rupee's value in the interbank market, they said and adding that the second leading factor is the lack of buying interest by the importers.
They said that the rupee might recover more ground versus the dollar in the coming days, they added.
In the world markets, the dollar moved both ways versus the major currencies after trade data report, overseas dealers said.
OPEN MARKET RATES: The rupee did not show any change versus the dollar for buying and selling at 59.70 and 59.80 in the process of trading, dealers said.
The local currency, lost 75 paisa versus the dollar for buying and selling at Rs 78.60 and Rs 79.00, respectively.

RUPEE IN LAHORE: The rupee remained firm and further appreciated its worth by 15 paisa in relation to the greenback in the local currency markets on Thursday.
The currency dealers said the dollar resumed trading at considerably low rates of Rs 59.70 and Rs 59.80 on buying and selling counters, respectively against Rs 59.80 and Rs 59.90 of Wednesday, adding in the absence of buying support, the dollar failed to sustain and started moving down.
At close, the dollar was traded at Rs 59.65 and Rs 59.75 on buying and selling sides, respectively, they said.
On the contrary, the rupee remained under pressure against the pound sterling. The pound was purchased at Rs 112.20, and sold at Rs 112.60 as compared to Wednesday's closing rates of Rs 111.20 and Rs 111.60, respectively, the dealers added.
RUPEE IN ISLAMABAD AND RAWALPINDI: The buying and selling rates of the dollar against the rupee remained unchanged in the open currency markets of Islamabad and Rawalpindi on Thursday.
The dollar opened at Rs 59.90 (buying) and Rs 60 (selling) against the same previous rate. It did not witness any further change in the evening session, and closed at Rs 59.90 (buying) and Rs 60 (selling).
Pound sterling opened at Rs 113 (buying) and Rs 113.20 (selling) against the previous rate. It did not witness any further change in the last trading hours, and closed at Rs 113 (buying) and Rs 113.20 (selling).
