PPPP president Makhdoom Amin Fahim, in his statement on January 2, said the Nawaz government was toppled without reason. May I remind the Makhdoom of Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto's interview to the BBC on October 19, a week after the take-over by General Musharraf that "We welcome the overthrow of the Nawaz regime and the PPP is ready to unofficially join hands with General Musharraf".
Makhdoom Amin Fahim himself, besides his deputy Raza Rabbani, Farhatullah Babar, Fauzia Habib and various other PPPP leaders gave statements in favour of General Musharraf. May the Makhdoom recall his Pir Sohawa meeting with President Musharraf and his statements afterwards? Was there any reason in his quest to find a way for collaborating with General Musharraf who, according to him, toppled Nawaz "without any reason"?
The Makhdoom is considered a reasonable and moderate leader among the PPPP stalwarts. One cannot expect from him such an immature statement. Till this time there are reports that PPPP has been in negotiations with the President for a political patch-up. The release of Asif Zardari from jail and subsequently his departure for abroad were part of those efforts. Without reason?!
