The government has put police and other law-enforcement agencies on high alert keeping in view of the forthcoming Eid-ul-Azha and the situation arises after Gilgit-Baltistan episode. The holidays and leaves of the police personnel and other agencies were cancelled and persons on leave were asked to report on their duties, in order to meet the requirement to maintain the law and order situation in Rawalpindi and avoid any untoward incident on this auspicious occasion.
The government wants to maintain complete religious and sectarian harmony in the district in order to avoid any sectarian tension in the area.
People from all walks of life and different shades of opinion were asked to take all possible measures to show complete solidarity and fraternity.
Meanwhile, District Nazim Raja Tariq Kiani convened a special meeting of Ulema and Mashaikh from all sects of the society, which was attended, by senior police and civil officials, besides religious scholars.
Addressing the participants, Kiani stressed the need of complete harmony in the society to avoid any untoward incident on the auspicious occasion of Eid.
"Islam is a religion of peace, harmony and it teaches peaceful co existence. Islam respects other religions and asks its followers to respect others", he added.
He appealed Ulema and Mashaikh to play their effective role in creating a peaceful atmosphere in the district and enhance the image of Islam in the world.
Kiani said that peace and harmony is imperative for the sustainable development and economic stability in the country. People from all shades of opinion must play their role in this direction, he added.
