Pakistan has received orders for the export of Basmati rice from Canada in attractive five-kilogram paper bags. The export of rice was earlier made in cotton bags. The Canadian buyers opted for the new paper bags with exquisite colourful printing because they feel that the colourful paper bags have more attraction to the customers as compared to the earlier cotton bags which presented a dismal look at the shelf.
The paper bags have colourful scenery of lush green rice fields of Punjab with the brand name and Pakistan's logo printed beautifully.
As desired by the buyers, the samples of the paper bags were printed in Dubai, but the mass production was undertaken in Karachi, when a printer accepted the challenge of printing quality of the international standard.
It may be pointed out that the exporters are allowed to import duty-free packing material under the Duty and Tax Remission Rules for Export (DTRE).
The rice exporters disclosed that the buyers in Germany had also shown interest in the new paper bags packing, which was expected to be popular in all developed and prosperous countries, including Saudi Arabia.
