Pakistan Association of Urological Surgeons (PAUS) is holding first-ever three-day international conference on urology in the provincial metropolis from February 7 to 9, in which 1,000 urologists from within and outside the country would take part. Chairman Senate, Muhammadmian Soomro will be chief guest, while Federal Minister for Health, Muhammad Naseer Khan and Punjab Minister for Health, Dr Tahir Ali Javed will attend as special guests.
Professor Dr Sajjad Hussain, Chief Executive, Lahore General Hospital said here on Thursday that the moot is aimed at creating awareness among the public about diseases relating to urology, protection of rights of the professionals in the field of urology, treatment and preventive measures in urology and research activities in the field of urology.
He said that delegates from USA, England, India, Bangladesh, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, UAE and Middle East countries would take part in the moot. A pre-conference workshop on Minimal Invasive Surgery would also be held at Sheikh Zayed Hospital, Lahore, in which surgeons would carry out operations of the deserving patients to be selected from various hospitals of the city, he added.
He further said that ethical issues in renal transplantation would also be discussed in the moot, which would also help in detecting kidney diseases at early stages. There is no specific law, which deals with the transplantation of human organs, and a draft is pending with the Senate standing committee. Issues pertaining to transplantation of organs would also be discussed in the moot, he said. He further said the country needs at least 20,000-kidney transplantation in a year because 33 percent of the disease is caused due to urological disorder.
