The Rawalpindi Development Authority (RDA) has announced that it will launch development projects of Rs 1.48 billion to give the city a beautiful look. Briefing the mediamen about the development plans of the authority, the RDA Managing Director, Brig Pervaiz Mehmood (retd), said during the 10-year plan, the authority would hold more than 10 mega projects here.
Those projects included widening of roads, beautification of the city, installation of water treatment and sewerage plants and construction of flyovers, he added.
Keeping in view the acute traffic problems in the city, he said two flyovers would be constructed at Murree Chowk and Chandni Chowk with a cost of Rs 0.45 billion, which would help to end the traffic jams at those two important points of the Murree Road.
The RDA chief said the water shortage was also a problem here, and it was decided to construct dams on the catchment areas to address that problem, adding the RDA had planned to construct small dam at Chrah to store the water and supply it to the city after the treatment.
He said the RDA would construct a multi-storey and multi-purpose RDA complex with the cost of one billion rupees, which would help increase the income of the organisation.
The authority would launch a housing scheme for the low-paid employees in the area, the RDA chief said, adding that 70 percent of the total plots would be allotted to low-paid income people, while 30 percent would be allocated to the employees.
Carpeting and redesigning of City Saddar Road would be started very soon with the cost of Rs 300 million, while redesigning and widening of Airport Road would also be taken into hand, he said.
