The Planning Commission is likely to discontinue the process of quarterly monitoring of developmental project from next quarter, it is learnt. Official sources told Business Recorder that the process of monitoring, which was initiated by the Planning Commission two years back, may be discontinued.
However, they said that this discontinuation of monitoring would not mean an altogether stoppage of the process but the ministries and departments would be asked to provide monthly reports on the projects and the Commission would arrange random monitoring of selected projects.
Sources said that the decision has not yet been officially notified, but during the meeting of the mid-term review of the ongoing projects last week Deputy Chairman Planning Commission showed reservation over the quarterly monitoring data provided by the officials of the Planning Commission.
There were vast discrepancies. The Deputy Chairman, therefore, said that the process would be changed.
Sources said that this decision if implemented would have both positive and negative impact on the development projects. Monitoring would be a kind of check on the activities of the Project Directors.
