Hong Kong shares close 2.43pc up

HONG KONG: Hong Kong shares ended 2.43 percent higher Tuesday, boosted by the mainland's big four banks after a China sovereign wealth fund bought huge stakes in them.

The benchmark Hang Seng Index gained 430.53 points to end at 18,141.59 on turnover of HK$83.60 billion ($10.74 billion).

Chinese shares edged up 0.16 percent. The Shanghai Composite Index, which covers both A and B shares, added 3.73 points to 2,348.52 points on turnover of 62.8 billion yuan ($9.9 billion).
