Russia's main Black Sea port of Novorossiisk has reopened after a six-day closure and has exported the first crude oil since February 4, shipping sources told Reuters on Friday. "The port has finally reopened. Four vessels are now alongside and the Hawaiian Leader ship managed to sail yesterday evening," a shipping agent said. Stormy weather this past week had halted all crude exports from the million barrels per day terminal as well as from the nearby CPC terminal that exports about 500,000 bpd.
This had filled up storage tanks at Novorossiisk and forced pipeline operator Transneft to halt pumping, shippers said. The source said pumping would likely resume as more vessels loaded up and sailed.
