The top leadership of the Alliance for the Restoration of Democracy (ARD) and Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal (MMA) will separately meet here to ponder over the country's "new political scenario" emerging out of meetings of Nawaz Sharif with Benazir Bhutto and MMA leaders. According to political sources, meeting of the MMA Supreme Council will be held on Monday, while the ARD has summoned its session on Tuesday.
Former Prime Minister Mian Nawaz Sharif held separate meetings with Benazir Bhutto and top leaders of MMA including Qazi Hussain Ahmed and Hafiz Hussain Ahmed last week.
According to the sources, meeting of the MMA Supreme Council will be held at the residence of religious alliance chief Qazi Hussain Ahmed. It will discuss current political situation in the country and forging of alliance with ARD for local bodies' elections.
It was also learnt that top brass of the MMA including Qazi Hussain Ahmed, Maulana Fazlur Rehman and Hafiz Hussain Ahmed would brief the council on their recent meetings with PML-N leader Nawaz Sharif in Jeddah.
On the other hand, the ARD meeting will be informed about contact between former premiers Benazir Bhutto and Nawaz Sharif.
The 'land mark' meeting between the two has prompted a strong reaction from the government as Shaukat Aziz administration's chief spokesman, Sheikh Rashid disclosed that the government was pursuing Bhutto for a deal.
While Benazir Bhutto has categorically rejected Sheikh Rashid's statement on very next day saying her party will never strike any deal with the military regime.
President Musharraf on Saturday made it clear that the meeting between Benazir Bhutto and Nawaz Sharif will have no impact on the political system.
Contrary to the situation, President of PML Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain and Punjab Chief Minister Chaudhry Pervez Elahi also held a meeting with Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz.
The Chaudhries of Gujrat informed the Prime Minister of their apprehensions regarding the wooing contacts between chairperson of Pakistan Peoples Party with the government as well the party policies.
Pakistan Muslim League (N) has also denied the claims of any deal between PPPP and the government. PML-N leadership is of the view that such things are aimed at creating differences among the ARD component parties.
