Punjab Education Minister Imran Masood has said that an Educational Advisory Committee has been constituted for formulating a uniform education policy. Talking to newsmen here last Saturday evening, he said the government was making strenuous efforts for the promotion of quality education in the province, adding that after hectic spadework the 'ghost schools' had been vanished from the province.
Imran Masood said the special attention under Punjab Education Sector Reforms programme has been accorded on ensuring basic facilities in educational institutions of the Punjab, adding that, at present, 63,000 government schools were functioning of which 40,000 schools were without basic facilities.
The minister said the World Bank had expressed its full satisfaction over the Punjab Education Sector Reforms Programme and agreed to provide $100 million every year for the continuation of the programme besides, it would also provide financial assistance during next 10-year.
Imran Masood said the government would encourage the private sector in setting up educational institutions in remote and backward areas of the province, adding the Education Foundation would provide loan facility on soft-terms and conditions to the private sector for the establishment of educational institutions.
Earlier, addressing a prize distribution ceremony of All Pakistan Private Schools Management Association, Daska, the provincial education minister said that the government would patronise and support the private sector for the promotion and expansion education in the province.
Imran Masood said the government was providing free education facility to the students and bearing the expenditure of fees amounting to Rs 420 million annually, while free textbooks were being provided to the students (Class I to Class X) in the province.
Imran Masood called upon the teachers community to fulfil their responsibilities with devotion and missionary zeal.
On this occasion, the minister announced a special grant of Rs 20 million for the post-graduate college for girls, Daska, to construct additional classrooms and Rs 150 million for providing basic facilities in government schools of Sialkot district.
Later, the provincial education minister distributed the awards among the students.
