Complete strike was observed in Mitro town on Monday to mourn the death of a religious leader and to condemn the police which failed to find any clue of killers of a religious scholar Muhammad Akhtar Khicchi (45), Amir of Tableeghi Jamaat, Mailsi, who was shot dead in Mitro town by pillion riders soon after imposition of ban on pillion riding on Sunday. Everyone is being thoroughly searched by law enforcing agencies.
"It was a terrorist activity because Muhammad Akhtar had no enmity with anyone and he was commonly popular among people of all sects and he was shot dead when district administration of Vehari had imposed ban on pillion riding and police and elite force was patrolling on the streets," Muhammad Arshad, younger brother of the deceased, told newsmen.
He said that police was reluctant to accept it as a terrorist act to conceal its own negligence and failure in maintaining peace in the area during Muharram.
"It is a well-planned conspiracy to disrupt the peaceful atmosphere of Mailsi subdivision," said city Nazim Muhammad Altaf . Haji Muhammad Akhtar leaves behind him two sons and four daughters.
"I think it might be result of old enmity or business rivalry. However, we are investigating this case from all aspects ie terrorist activity, sectarian killing, enmity, family feud etc I am optimistic that culprits involved in this case would soon be arrested," DPO, Vehari, Mukhtar Iqbal Tikka, told newsmen.
TAAZIA LICENCE CANCELLED : Punjab Home Secretary has cancelled the licence of Maseeti Begum to take out a Taazia procession in Kehror Pucca and asked the district administration of Lodhran to implement these orders in letter and spirit. This step has been taken following an outstanding demand of Shia organisations.
DPO Lodhran Muhammad Zaman Langarial said: "Maseeti Begum had got issued a Taazia licence from District Magistrate, Hissar, in 1945. Later she got transferred this licence from Hissar to Multan district and a Taazia procession was taken out from Mohalla Julbanwala (Kehror Pucca). Participants of this procession used to recited Nauhay only instead of beating chests and they also demonstrated playing with swords and defeating the enemy."
Some Shias raised objection on this procession and demanded immediate cancellation of the licence because the licensee is no more alive and now her followers were doing business.
