Suspected freedom fighters threw a grenade into a bookshop owned by a former freedom fighter in Indian occupied Kashmir on Wednesday, killing him and wounding seven others, police said. Five of the wounded were in critical condition and were airlifted by helicopter to a nearby hospital, a police statement said.
No freedom fighter group claimed responsibility for the attack in Kishtawar, a militancy-hit town 267 km, south of occupied Srinagar.
Kishtawar is in Doda district which went to polls last week to elect town councils and mayors.
Earlier on Wednesday, freedom fighters in the southern Anantnag district shot dead a member of India's communist party after they failed to find his daughter-in-law who had recently been elected in an earlier round of the municipal elections. The sixth round of elections will be held in the south-western Rajouri and Poonch districts on Thursday.
