Unfair labour practices, prevailing in the formal and informal sectors, hamper institutional, industrial and agricultural productivity. This was the consensus of a five-day national training workshop on 'Unfair Labour Practicess' concluded here on Thursday This was the 3rd national training on this subject under the series of 12 national training programmes to be conducted by ISCOS-CISL during upcoming three years ie, 2004-2007. Representation from various NGOs/CBOs from all over the country participated in the training.
Addressing the concluding ceremony Igor Felice, Country Representative, Istituto Sindacale Perla Cooperazoine Allo Sviluppo (ISCOS)-CISL, emphasised the need to eliminate the discriminatory labour laws to protect rights of workers and ensure a conducive work environment for them.
During the five-day training course, resource persons representing national and international organisations, discussed the status of the labour rights in the country and highlighted unfair labour practices, which are common in the formal and informal sectors of work.
They also discussed domestic workers, child labours, forced and bonded labour and discrimination at work places. They also covered unfair labour practice and discrimination against women at work places.
This programme, organised by the ISCOS aims to train 60 national level master trainers, who will further disseminate training to 400 local level trainers.
This training was conducted as a part of the ISCOS project "Strengthening Civil Society Organisations to promote and defend Workers Rights", which is co-funded by the European Commission (EC) and ISCOS-CISL, in collaboration with the All Pakistan Federation of Labour (APFOL). Under another component of the project, training, capacity building and legal support activities for trade union members are also being carried out for the promotion of workers rights.
For this purpose 19 national level and 48 regional level training would be conducted during the project period.
