The news appearing in the media during the last few days indicates that the railway locomotives imported from China have developed cracks, sub-standard steel has been used in the Ghazi Brotha project. The small dams in Balochistan could not bear the pressure of the recent rains and have broken, washing away quite a few villages, causing loss of life and property.
Does all this not hint towards the existence of corruption at a high level amidst the rulers' rhetoric that corruption has been eradicated from the higher level?
The government contemplates to undertake the construction of mega dams in the near future. If these projects are executed through corrupt officials at the high level and these dams (God forbid) prove to be vulnerable to the water pressures, can one imagine the loss of life and property, which could occur?
The need, therefore, is of eradication of corruption in the real sense, instead of resorting to mere rhetoric, before embarking on such mega projects.
