The University of Health Sciences (UHS) Lahore has employed very impressive and innovative methods of education and evaluation which will train our doctors according to international standards and enhance their repute and credibility the world over. President, Alumni of Pakistani Physicians of North America (APPNA), Dr Hussain Malik stated this during a meeting with the UHS vice-chancellor, Professor Malik Hussain Mubashar on Tuesday.
Professor Malik briefed Dr Hussain about the postgraduate, M.Phil and Ph.D. programmes launched by the University. He said that the UHS is trying to promote higher studies in basic medical sciences, including anatomy, physiology, biochemistry, pharmacology and pathology.
About 50 students had been enrolled this year in various M.Phil and Ph.D. programmes, who would also be given financial assistance by the University. "Promoting a culture of medical research in Pakistan is one of our main objectives," he added.
He also said that the UHS had launched, for the first time in Pakistan, M.Sc. degree course in Bio-medical Engineering, the classes of which would be staring form April 4. He also briefed the APPNA's President on the UHS international collaboration. The agreements of co-operation with Texas, Manchester and Sheffield universities would provide golden opportunities to Pakistani students and medical faculty to get training from abroad.
