Federal Minister for Tourism Dr Ghazi Ghulab Jamal has said that the new tourism policy will increase not only the foreign exchange earning but also boost the soft image of Pakistan. The minister was briefing media men about the Ghandhara Civilisation Week, which is scheduled to be held from March 28 to April 3. He said that 128 foreigners have confirmed to participate in the event adding that the number of the participants is expected to increase.
They would be coming from Japan, China, Korea, Thailand, Malaysia, Philippines and United Kingdom. The participants include scholars, tour operators, travel writers, journalists and governments representatives.
During the celebration of the event special visits to the cultural heritage sites at Takhtbhai, Saidu Sharif, Swat, Charsadda, Peshawar, and Taxila will be conducted, the minister said.
The minister also disclosed that ministry has also planned to celebrate Indus Valley Civilisation Week in Sindh in November 2005.
Jamal was of the view that arrangements of such events are part of the campaign to attract more tourists to Pakistan by opening up new tourism avenues.
