It is the backbone of a country that sets its eyes on maximising its performance in every field. The spirit of entrepreneurship brings about enthusiasm, persistence and the ability to seek entrepreneurial opportunities lead to success. A country's ability to generate a steady stream of business opportunities can only come about when its people take to entrepreneurial activities. Entrepreneurs are essentially the engines of growth for a country.
There are several factors that go into making a successful entrepreneur, and he need not necessarily possess a strong business and financial background. On the contrary, well-conceived and well-directed training can always produce an outstanding entrepreneur.
Small and Medium Enterprises play a vital role in economic development and overall transition of developing country. Most of the SMEs in the OIC member countries are operating below the optimal level and lack in good management and skills development practices. Risk taking, future orientation and innovation are the hallmark of successful entrepreneur. To promote entrepreneurial culture in OIC countries 'Training of Trainers in Entrepreneurship' could be fundamental step.
This would be best route to address the issues of unemployment, equitable distribution of income, mobilisation of human and capital resources, to foster economic growth of the country.
It was mentioned that the 2nd Meeting of OIC Task Force on SMEs held in Mozambique in May 2003 has recommended the following Resolution. This Resolution was also discussed in recently concluded 3rd Meeting of the OIC Task Force on SMEs held in Pakistan in March 2004.
Training Programmes in business and management skills for SMEs should be organised in the core areas of marketing, production, operation management, information technology and e-commerce and human resources management, to encourage setting up of SMEs.
These Training Programmes should be practical and interactive and especially adapted to the specific needs of SMEs. Priority should be given to the training of trainers, so that qualified local instructors are available to teach the workforce of SMEs in each country.
