MMA has demanded immediate expulsion of the British High Commissioner for interfering in the internal affairs of Pakistan. The high Commissioner's only fault is that while addressing a seminar in Multan he asked the politicians "to prefer national interests over their parties' interest". I think, an excellent piece of advice particularly for our politicians. What is objectionable to it, only Hafiz Hussain Ahmed -Secretary-General MMA - can explain? The HC also said that some of the politicians oppose Musharraf for personal reasons, and that's where he pressed their sensitive vein.
It is a bitter truth that they cannot swallow and have, therefore, demanded expulsion of the envoy.
Why do the MMA maulvis and maulanas oppose Musharraf is not very difficult to understand? Musharraf talks of enlightened moderation, peaceful Islam, progress of the masses, advancement in science and technology, a forward-looking Pakistan etc,. whereas the maulvis not only oppose it all but also want to impose their brand of Taleban-like Islam, preaching obscurantism and pushing the nation back to the medieval ages.
Kindly allow me to request these maulvis and maulanas, to keep their brand of Islam to themselves and leave us alone. For God's sake do not darken the future of our children. For Heaven's sake spare them the type of retrogression that you are capable of offering to any one.
Who has authorised you to do so? None of your elders sided with the Quaid-e-Azam in creating Pakistan, how can you now claim it to be your responsibility to Islamise it in your style. I am sure Qazi Sahib and Hafiz Sahib are aware of the official Fatwa given by Deoband last year that watching of the television, even for the Islamic religious programmes, is not permissible! As a result of which mass public destruction of the TV sets was carried out in Swat and Bunair areas.
I hope you are not planning such horrific darkness for opposing Musharraf's enlightened moderation.
