Major heart diseases hospital in final stage: Nazim

City Nazim Naimatullah Khan has said that City government was fully conscious about the provision of health facilities in the city and in this connection a large size coronary disease hospital is nearing completion. The City Nazim expressed these views while talking to Muslim Aid delegation from Britain at his office here on Thursday. He said Karachi Institute of Heart Diseases is in final stage of completion and would be inaugurated next month.
"In Karachi, the number of heart patients is increasing and for a population of 140 million there is only one National Institute of Heart Disease," Naimatullah Khan said and added that an average six persons who suffer heart attack die on way to hospital daily.
To cope with the situation, he said the CDGK has decided to establish ten Chest pain centres, besides the heart disease hospital, so that a person on suffering a heart attack could immediately get first aid from nearby a centre.
The spots have been selected for these chest pain centres, he added.
He pointed out that financial assistance will be required for establishment of these centres and the CDGK will welcome those who come forward with finance.
The British delegation told that it would review the education and health projects of the City government and said the Muslim Aid's objective is to provide assistance to poor, especially children and destitute women.
They said, "our objective is also to provide financial assistance in under-developed countries in health and education sectors.
The City nazim told the delegation that there was a lot of spirit among Pakistani philanthropists and said with the financial help of well to do persons, dowry was provided to destitute girls, sewing machines to widows and financial assistance to the disabled in Pakistan.
On the occasion, the Advisor to City Nazim Abdul Rashid Baig gave details about the social welfare activities and told the delegation that in Thar desert 309 wells were dug, while 17 others are under construction so that people could fetch potable water for consumption.
