A man was killed when a bomb exploded in a small town in Balochistan, police said on Sunday. The bomb went off late Saturday on a road in Naushki, 135 kilometres west of Quetta, said local police officer Mohammad Arif. "It was a low intensity home-made device," Arif told AFP. "A pedestrian was fatally wounded in the blast, which also damaged a nearby shop," he added. No one has claimed responsibility for the blast. Resource-rich Balochistan has been gripped by violence since last year.
Nationalist tribesmen are demanding more economic rights from the use of the province's natural resources by the government.
The situation remains tense in the area near the country's largest gas installations at Sui.
