The British High Commission in collaboration with an NGO, Sach, held a symposium here on Thursday to highlight the issue of "forced marriages" which is a source of domestic violence, increased number of divorces, murders and social unrest. Speakers pointed out that every year many youths, born or brought up in western countries having single or dual nationalities, are forced to marry in Pakistan without their consent.
Speakers claimed that some victims are in prisons under Hudood laws and the society must take concrete steps to end their miseries.
The symposium was also addressed by British High Commissioner Mark Lyall Grant.
