Justice Nazir A Siddiqui of Lahore High Court Multan Bench admitted a writ petition of 13 accused in Mukhtarn Mai gang rape case who had challenged their detention under section 3 of Maintenance of Public Order in Lahore High Court Multan Bench describing it repugnant to the norms of justice and basic human rights. Additional Advocate General on Thursday produced the detention orders before the court and copies were also supplied to the counsel of the accused.
After receiving the copy of the detention order, the court formally admitted the writ petition and had fixed the date of hearing for March 31 (today) for removal of objection, and asked the Additional Advocate General to produce the detention orders before the court and provide to the petitioners.
The petitioners, through their counsel Muhammad Salim Malik submitted that Anti Terrorism Court Dera Ghazi Khan had acquitted Eight accused named Ghulam Hussain, Hazoor Bakhsh, Rasul Bakhsh, Muhammad Qasim, Muhammad Aslam, Allah Ditta, Khalil Ahmed and Ghulam Hussain and a Division Bench of High Court Multan Bench also rejected the Mukhtarn Mai's appeal against their acquittal.
While another five convicts Muhammad Fayyaz, Ghulam Fareed, Allah Ditta, Faiz Bakhsh (Chief Juror) Fayyaz Ahmed and Mediator Ramzan Gujar were also acquitted by High Court.
Inspite of acquittal, on the instructions of Prime Minister, the Punjab Home Secretary issued their detention orders. They were kept on house arrest at the residence of Faiz Bakhsh Mastoi.
Later, they were shifted to District Jail Muzaffargarh.
