Sindh Department of Irrigation and Power will sign a Memorandum of Understanding on April 3 with Transparency International (TI), Pakistan, to implement complete transparency regarding procurements for the department. Minister for Irrigation and Power, Nadir Akmal Khan Leghari, held meeting with Transparency International Pakistan at his office on Thursday. The meeting was also attended by Ashfaq Memon, Secretary, and three Chief Engineers, and four members of Transparency International Pakistan.
The minister expressed his desire to have complete transparent procurement system in the Irrigation and Power Department. TI Pakistan offered its expert services to assist the Ministry to achieve its aims.
TI Pakistan gave a presentation on the systemic change it has brought in the procurement system in KWSB, CDGK, Pakistan Steel and PTCL by introducing 'Integrity Pact' in their procurement procedures.
The minister was informed that 'Transparent Procurement System', prepared by TI Pakistan, had been included in the working of National Accountability Bureau 2002 and systemic changes in procurement procedures based on integrity pact with the persuasion of NAB and TI Pakistan had also been adopted by the Government of Pakistan.
Nadir agreed to sign the Memorandum of Understanding between Transparency International Pakistan and the Ministry of Irrigation & Power, Government of Sindh for the implementation of the 'Integrity Pact' and transparency in procurement systems in the Department of Irrigation and Power Sindh.
The signing ceremony will take place on Sunday, April 3 in presence of media at the Chief Minister House.
Sindh Chief Minister Ghulam Rahim has agreed to witness the ceremony and assured the minister of his full co-operation in achieving success to his initiative of introducing Transparent Procurement System.-PR
