More than 20,000 people including children took part in the procession to mark the Eid Milad-un-Nabi, the birthday of Holy Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) in Multan with religious fervour and solemnity. The main procession of Anjuman Islamia was taken out from Daulat gate which terminated at same place after passing through city roads which was led by Makhdoom Wajahat Hussain Gilani, Sajjada Nasheen of Dargah Hazrat Musa Pak Shaheed, District Nazim Pir Riaz Hussain Qureshi, Federal Parliamentary Secretary Syed Asad Murtaza Gilani, Syed Ghulam Yazdani Gilani, Syed Shafaat Mustafa Gilani, Nafees Ahmed Ansari, MPA, and acting city Nazim Dr Muzaffar Ahsan.
An activist of Dawat-i-Islami Haji Muhammad Salim fell from a running tractor trolley and died on the spot while another activist Muhammad Akmal was run over by Tezgam. Four persons were injured when a clash took place on the issue of removing the tarpauline from the Sarafa Bazar.
Police have registered a case against the shopkeeper under section 16 MPO.
Another main procession was taken out from Qasim Bagh under the leadership of Sahibzada Qari Muhammad Mian Naqshbandi. More than 50 processions were taken out from different parts of the city. Entire city was decorated with colourful lights, arches, gates. Mahafil-i-Milad were also held in more than 150 mosques of the city. Muslims across the world, including Pakistan, celebrated the 1,479th birthday of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him) on Friday (the 12th of Rabiul Awwal), with religious enthusiasm and solemnity. Muslims renewed their pledge to spread the prophet's (PBUH) of peace, compassion and brotherhood for the betterment of humanity.
Clerics urged the Muslims to unify and practice Islam. Special prayers were offered on Friday for the country's solidarity, integrity and prosperity.
Security has been tightened for the occasion and heavy police contingent was patrolling in the city while police guards were deployed at the square and important places to avoid any untoward incident.
Procession routes were sealed. Law enforcement agencies, fire brigade, civil defence, bomb disposal squad and emergency wards of hospitals have been alerted. The deputy inspector general (traffic) has been directed to ensure smooth traffic in the city.
