The Punjab government in collaboration with Asian Development Bank will conduct a feasibility study for setting up small power generating stations to meet the electricity requirement. Chairman Punjab Assembly Standing Committee for Power and Irrigation, Sardar Shaukat Ali Dogar stated this in an interview with APP here on Sunday. He said that the Punjab government had allocated an amount of Rs 16 million for the purpose.
He said due to non-construction of big water reservoirs, a considerable increase could not be made in power generation. It was need of hour to establish small power stations to generate electricity through solar system, coal and bio-gas, he added.
Sardar Shaukat said that the Punjab government had initiated a comprehensive programme for brick lining of 8873 miles long canals and water channels in the province.
He said that Rs 31 billion would be spent on this project to ensure the availability of irrigation water at the tail end.
He said that the government was providing loans to the growers through one window operation and added the limit of the loan for purchasing pesticides for kharif crops has been increased from Rs 60,000 to 100,000.
