Punjab Education Minister Mian Imran Masood has asked the Aga Khan University Institute for Educational Development to provide technical assistance for professional development of teachers for improving school education in the Punjab. During his visit to AKU-IED on Wednesday, the minister along with his team observed the teaching and learning process and took keen interest in the process. They were impressed with the quality of education used for teachers' development in the classroom.
The delegation also attended a presentation on AKU-IED's academic, research and outreach programmes, and appreciated the role of the Institute in building capacity of the country's public sector in the areas of teachers' education and educational leadership.
Imran Masood found the Institute's commitment to creating a research culture in Pakistan and making research an integral part of in-service education programmes.
The Punjab team during its meeting with AKU President Dr Shams Kassim-Lakha asked him for assistance in improving the school education in the province. The minister also expressed satisfaction with the work in progress at the University's Examination Board (AKU-EB).
Imran Masood said that the initial misgivings regarding the Board had been dispelled through dialogue with AKU and the University's efforts to present the factual position before policy-makers as well as the public at large.
