Trading Corporation of Pakistan (TCP) following the instructions of Economic Co-ordination Committee (ECC) will float a tender for the import of urea by end of this week. A TCP official Wednesday said that the chairman who was in Islamabad to attend MINFAL meeting had already issued instruction to make preparations in this regard. MINFAL meeting would take decision about the specifications and quantities for urea import.
It may be noted that ECC meeting chaired by the Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz had instructed TCP to import 250,000 metric tons of urea to ensure availability of sufficient quantity for growers during forthcoming "Kharif" season at reasonable prices.
ECC has appreciated the performance of TCP in the import of wheat and urea and local procurement of sugar and cotton specially in stabilising local cotton prices.
The committee also appreciated the role of TCP chairman in cotton procurement and in export observing that the corporation fulfilled government expectations in the time of crisis. TCP official said that the corporation had procured 238,000 MT of urea last year to meet growers requirements for the "Rabi" season and added that TCP would complete the import of required quantity of urea (250,000 MT) by mid July.
