Food Park in the heart of the capital, which opened couple of years ago with much fanfare, is gradually losing its customers because of substandard food and unhygienic conditions. Food prices have registered a sharp increase over the last few months while the quality of both service and food have dwindled. "I come here fairly regularly but the standard of food, both in quality and quantity, has deteriorated considerably," says Naeem Ahmed while dining at the Food Park. He said he would not eat here again.
At peak hours - during lunch break and in the evenings - the customers complain that sometime they are served with half-cooked or stale food.
"When you ask for replacement, the waiter will tell you that the restaurant will not take it back or refund for what has already been served," said Mohammad Hanif, who eats at the Park regularly.
CHOKED GUTTERS: Another common complaint is that the gutters remain choked most of the time. The stench sometimes is so overpowering that the customers find it hard to sit and eat.
According to the stallholders, the CDA staff rarely comes to clean them up.
Some of the gutters are situated in front of the food kiosks over which the owners have set up barbecue stands.
"You don't feel like eating anything when you see cockroaches and flies-infested drains over which the restaurant owners have set up their barbecues," said another customer. Another common complaint is that of overcharging by the stallholders in connivance with the waiters.
The customers say the waiters sometime add extra items to the bill considering the person will pay the net amount without doing the calculations.
"I was charged Rs 60 extra in a bill of Rs 1,000 for an item I never ordered," complained a customer.
Food Park is a good place for family outing and the Capital Development Authority needs to take measures to stop the declining standards at the Park.
