Sindh Cabinet in its special meeting on Monday considered the new Medium Term Development Framework (MTDF) 2005-10 proposed by the federal government as an alternative to five-year plans in vogue since 1960. Though five-year plans have not been drawn after 1980s but they continue to remain alive in the documents of planning commission. The MTDF that came under discussion in the cabinet meeting has been drawn by the planning commission under the instructions of National Economic Council (NEC) as an alternative to a new five-year plan.
Adviser to the Sindh Chief Minister on Information Salahuddin Haider said the meeting continued for more than two hours under the chairmanship of Chief Minster Dr Arbab Ghulam Rahim.
The meeting considered the draft point by point and recorded its reservations. These would be sent to Islamabad for further necessary action. The meeting also acknowledged hard work done by Senior Minister Syed Sardar Ahmed and Minister for Planning and Development Shoaib Bukhari in respect of the MTDF.
The meeting also decided to propose legislation to regulate functioning of blood banks in the province. It was noted in the meeting that many of the blood banks were indulging into unethical practices and selling unsafe blood for transfusion. The meeting also decided to strengthen Safe Blood Transfusion Authority in the province.
Adviser to the Chief Minister on Health Faisal Malik informed the meeting that health department has already sealed many blood banks indulging in unethical practices but they have managed to be back in the business.
