Punjab Chief Minister, Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi, has directed all District nazims and DCOs to take strict action against the elements involved in filling of gas cylinders, fireworks and other illegal business activities in residential areas and submit a report to the provincial government in this regard. He issued these instructions during his visit to the site where a three-storey building collapsed due to bursting of gas cylinders in a godown at Iqbal Town, Sabzi Mandi on Tuesday.
District Nazim Lahore, Mian Amer Mehmood, Punjab Minister for Tourism, Mian Muhammad Aslam Iqbal and Minister for Information Technology, Abdul Aleem Khan were also present.
Talking to journalists, the Chief Minister said he was deeply grieved over the loss of precious human lives in this tragic incident. He said that instructions had been issued for an inquiry into the matter and strict action would be taken against the guilty persons.
The Chief Minister also ordered concerned authorities to identify the elements engaged in such illegal business activities so that stern action could be taken against them. Moreover, Pervaiz also visited Jinnah Hospital to enquire the health of the persons, who were injured in this tragic incident.
Provincial Minster for Health Dr Tahir Ali Javed was also present on the occasion. The Chief Minister announced financial assistance of Rs 150,000 for the heirs of each deceased person and Rs 50,000 for each injured person. He directed health authorities to provide all necessary treatment facilities to the injured free of cost.
Later, the Chief Minister summoned an emergent meeting at the Chief Minister's House and directed Provincial Minister for Law and Local Government, Muhammad Basharat Raja that orders issued against the elements engaged in illegal business activities in residential areas be immediately implemented. Provincial Minister for Communication and Works, Chaudhry Zaheer-ud-Din was also present in the meeting.
