Railway Engineering Department Mirpurkhas has completed the work of converting a kilometre- long meter gauge railway track into broad gauge railway track from Khokhrapar railway station towards Zero Point borderline after shifting the programme of start of work from Mirpurkhas to Khokhrapar. Reliable sources of Railway Department informed APP here on Thursday that Railway Minister, Chairman Railway and relevant railway personnel would arrive here on May 9. The Railway minister would inaugurate the work near Mirpurkhas railway station and in this connection, arrangements were being finalised here, they added.
It may be recalled that after issuance of directives by the federal government and allocation of funds, the Railway Engineering Department had decided to start the work from railway station Mirpurkhas upto Khokhrapar.
For this purpose, about 8000 sleepers and other iron materials had arrived here through a special goods train and work was started from here, the sources revealed.
However, in the initial stage the Engineering Department revised its strategy and shifted most of the materials to Khokhrapar railway station after deciding that work would be started firstly from Khokhrapar railway station towards Zero Point border line, a distance of about 8 kilometres from Khokhrapar railway station.
The sources said that with the help of about 200 railway labourers gathered from different railway stations of Sindh by the railway authority, work was launched from Khokhrapar railway station towards the Zero Point. Work till one kilometre had so far been completed after day-night work.
