Idara Aaghosh, a non-government organisation (NGO) working for welfare of children, has decided to expand network of its schools to other parts of Punjab, in view of its success in the provincial capital. "We plan to increase the existing number of schools from 10 to 100 by end of the current year", disclosed Idara Aaghosh President Shahid Aziz here on Thursday. He said that these schools would be open in districts of Sheikhupura, Kasur, Okara, Sahiwal, Jhang, Mianwali and Khushab, where students will be provided books free of cost while Idara Aaghosh will bear the expenditures to be incurred on other heads, including salaries of the teachers.
He said at present in Lahore these schools are functioning in Garhi Shahu, Sanda Kalan, Baghbanpura, Tajpura, Karnalpura, Awan Town, Muridke, Bhatti Gate, Lohari Gate, Nawan Pind, Feroz Gunj areas, with around 500 students including male and females.
Shahid Aziz was of the view that besides the government, private sector and NGOs will also have to play their role to improve the literacy rate. He also praised the government for according top priority to education sector.
