The Export Promotion Bureau (EPB) has launched a hand holding scheme to honour successful exporters, and to inspire new incumbents by old exporters' success stories. The scheme is part of trade policy initiative, aiming to inspire and guiding potential businessmen desiring to enter export business. It entails search for success stories of smaller entrepreneurs going into export business, writing down script of their business initiative, and outlining all steps, which they undertook for their achievements. The EPB will prepare a documentary on their life and business and would sponsor its telecast on all leading channels.
The concept paper of the scheme believes that there are many manufacturers who are apprehensive of exports business because of lack of experience in dealing with foreign buyers, ignorance of international trade documentation, lack of knowledge about banking and letter of credit (L/C) procedures etc.
The objective of the scheme is to inspire smaller entrepreneurs to explore the possibility of undertaking exports; to make them quality-conscious and aware of international competitiveness; and functioning of various facilitation agencies like EPB, Smeda and manufacturers; and to determine information about concessions available to exporters.
The concessions enjoyed by exporters include freight subsidy, subsidy for participation in overseas fairs and trade delegations and other fiscal incentives such as Duty and Tax Remission Rules for Export (DTRE), Sales Tax refund and duty drawback and support for training with funding from Export Marketing Development Fund (EMDF).
The EPB has advertised the scheme to arrange production of documentaries, and as invited expressions of interest from production houses.
Presently, the Bureau is busy in identifying such exporters who have succeeded in making a breakthrough, especially those who took help from EPB, and is negotiating with production houses for preparation of documentaries on their achievements.
The Director of ESM of EPB, Dr Fazlullah Pechuho, has distributed a format among all officers asking them to fill in the details of businesspersons who have become successful exporters.
