The Ministry of Labour and Manpower and the International Labour Organisation (ILO) will launch a comprehensive report on Forced Labour on May 12. The report "A Global Alliance Against Forced Labour" has been prepared as a follow-up of ILO's declaration on fundamental principles and labour rights at work. The 87-page study provides the first estimates by ILO of forced labour in the world and regionally; the number of people affected by forced labour; victims of trafficking; and first estimate of profits made by traffickers of workers.
The report also analyses major categories of forced labour, and presents significant challenges for virtually every country. It will assess the experience at the national level in meeting this challenge, with particular emphasis on the importance of sound laws and policies, their enforcement and effective prevention strategies.
It reviews the actions in a number of countries against forced labour over the past four years by ILO, and calls for a global alliance against forced labour from its partners, including governments, employees, and workers.
