The government is keen to promote export culture in the province, and will welcome proposals of business and trade communities in this regard for consideration and incorporation in the new industrial policy, said Punjab minister for Industries, Ajmal Cheema. Talking to a delegation of industrialists at his office here on Wednesday, the minister observed that our business community should study world markets, and remarked that innumerable export opportunities have opened up in Central Asian States (CAS).
He said Pakistani products- textiles, sports goods, surgical equipment, leather goods, jewellery etc - could make inroads in the Central Asian markets, according to a handout issued here. The minister said that industrial growth was also the key to generating more jobs and ending unemployment.
He observed that it speaks highly for the quality of our products that a fan manufacturing company of Gujrat has been certified to export to the US, and expressed hope that more companies with quality products would earn profitable export opportunities.
The government would welcome input and recommendations of the business community, exporters and representatives of the Chambers of Commerce and Industry in Punjab's industrial policy for 2005-06, he said, adding that last year's policy had showed positive results and achieved targets with regard to social security.
Cheema further observed that while businesses the world over were in a state of confusion with regard to the WTO regime, only a few of our sectors might be adversely affected. A majority of Pakistani industries, especially the textile sector, were doing quite well under it, he added.
