Private Power Infrastructure Board (PPIB) Managing Director Zafar Ali Khan has said that 1000 MW thermal electricity would be produced in the beginning of 2008 that would help overcome shortage of electricity in the country. Speaking in a PTV programme here on Monday, he said from year 2007 to 2013, about $8 billion investment would be made in different projects of electricity in coal reserve areas.
He said negotiation with a Chinese company was also in progress to produce 600 MW thermal electricity in Thar coal reserve area. Besides, various electricity generation projects were in different phases, which would hopefully make country self-reliant in this sector, he added.
The MD said advertisement had also been tendered to attract private sector to produce 450 MW thermal electricity from Lakhara coal reserve. Work on two projects was in progress in Sonajhar coal reserve to produce thermal power electricity, he informed.
