Sindh Chief Secretary Fazlur Rehman has called upon the officials of works and services department to take immediate steps for release of funds so as to ensure effective implementation of newly approved schemes. He said it must be ensured that whenever a new scheme is launched, the allocation for the old scheme must not get affected. He made this observation at a briefing of the works and services department given by its Secretary Faisal Saud.
Referring to solution of certain problems and recommendations thereof, the chief secretary directed that a summary for the purpose should be moved with the condition for its approval from the higher level.
He directed that a separate briefing be held in relation to the New Sindh Secretariat Complex, winch is part of the 2004-05 building sector programme. The programme envisages residential facility for employees of Sindh House, police barrack, mosque, governor and chief minister annexes at Sindh House Islamabad, 24 multi-storeyed flats for grade 19 and 20 officers at Karachi.
The meeting was informed that under the access to justice programme, work is going on schemes of judicial and jail departments and other schemes at a cost of Rs 2,265 million. It was pointed out that work is also in progress on 79 courts throughout Sindh by the provincial buildings department in consultation with judicial department and of them work on 32 courts is nearing completion.
The secretary works and services also briefed the chief secretary about construction and repair of roads, identification of provincial and district roads and buildings, physical achievements of the last 3 years and targets for 2005-06 ongoing and completed development schemes, foreign aided projects, rural road construction projects with Japanese assistance, road construction programme relating to mines and mineral development department and coastal development authority, maintenance and repair service, ongoing road sector development project assisted by Asian Development Bank, provincial highways and construction of bridges besides ADP schemes.
In the briefing, recommendations were also made with regard to transport for officials and staff posted at field offices, residential telephone facilities for officials, self-hiring and design/research allowance. The chief secretary directed that a summary be moved to chief minister for his consideration.
