Sindh Government will set up Sindh Institute of Bio-Technology and Genetic Engineering at Hyderabad at a cost of Rs 1070 million. The establishment of this institute will widen the scope of agriculture research in the province, said Advisor to Sindh Chief Minister for Food and Agriculture, Murtaza Khan Jatoi while presiding over a meeting of Research Department here on Wednesday.
In the meeting, the Advisor was briefed about the aims and objectives of the institute.
Murtaza Jatoi described fast development in agriculture research field as need of the hour and said setting up of this Institute will activate this important department which in turn will help control agricultural diseases, develop new crops and increase per acre productivity.
The Advisor asked the farmers to benefit from modern agriculture technology to cope with shortage of agricultural water. He called for efficient use of water for sowing of crops.
The meeting was informed that this project will reach completion in 60 months and in the first phase the departments of Plant Genomics and Molecular Breeding, Genetic Engineering, Bio Fertiliser/Bio- Process Technology, Pathology/Moleculer Virology and Tissue Culture Techniques will be established.
It was informed that this Institute will be equipped with modern equipment's to teach latest agriculture technology to students and prepare them to cope with the present day challenges.
Besides office block, the institute will have library, auditorium hall, seminar hall, boys and girls hostels, rest house, residential colony, mosque, glass house etc.
