Food Department Multan has procured 586,864 ton wheat so far, achieving 61.13 percent of the target of 960,000 at 75 centres, set up in six districts of the former division here. Food Deputy Director Manzoor Bajwa said the district-wise procurement so far was 118,975 ton from Multan, 66,333 ton from Lodhran, 123,473 ton from Khanewal, 108,430 ton from Vehari, 122,314 ton from Sahiwal and 47,339 ton from Pakpattan.
He said the wheat was being purchased at the government support rate of Rs 400 per 40 kilogram and prospective sellers were issued gunny bags against a payment of Rs 50 per bag which was refunded when they fetched the grain to the procurement centre, he added.
