Punjab Minister for Literacy and Non-formal Education, Hussain Jahanian Gardezi has said that budgetary allocation for non-formal education has been enhanced by four percent to Rs 200 million in the budget 2005-06. While addressing a press conference, here on Wednesday, Gardezi said that four model districts including Dera Ghazi Khan, Khanewal, Mandi Bahauddin and Khushab have been selected to achieve 100 percent literacy rate within next four years.
He said that an amount of Rs 1 billion would be spent on this project in the next fiscal year. The federal government would provide 35 percent of the funds while share of the Punjab government would be 37 percent, district governments 20 percent and 8 percent would be contributed by JICA, he added. He further said that 15,000 schools have been set up for adult education and 10,000 schools for basic primary education in the province.
