Professional accounting education programmes are meant to ensure that candidates for membership of an International Federation of Accountants (IFAC) member body have enough advanced knowledge to enable them to function as competent professional accountants in an increasingly complex and changing environment.
This was stated by Abdul Rahim Suriya, Executive Director Spencer Pharma Pvt Ltd at a seminar on " Recent Developments at IFAC Education Committee", organised by Institute of Chartered Accountants of Pakistan (ICAP) here on Wednesday night.
He said that the objective of international accounting standards is to advance the profession of accountancy by establishing benchmarks for minimum learning requirement of qualified accountants, including education, practical experience and continuing professional development.
Suriya said: "The aim of this standard is to ensure that candidates for membership of an IFAC member body are equipped with the appropriate professional values, ethics and attitudes to function as professional accountants."
"The entry requirements to a programme of professional accounting education provides some commentary on how to assess entry-level qualifications," he said, adding, "to fulfil this requirement, member bodies may require certain entrants to take pre-entry proficiency."
Former president ICAP Khaliq-ur-Rahman chaired the session.
